HemorrhageSollerEtAlSurvivors

Description

Replicating the experiment in Soller et al for the group of survivor swine. Swine were given a controlled bleed for 15 minutes at a rate of 24 ml/kg. The controlled bleed was stopped and a spleen injury was applied for an uncontrolled bleed. After 15 additional minutes, fluids were given (assuming saline) to maintain mAP at 65 mmHg (measured MAP was not 65 throughout study). Measurements were taken at 0 minutes (end of uncontrolled hemorrhage), 15 minutes, 60 minutes and 120 minutes. The amount of blood lost and the amount of fluid given was also recorded at these intervals allowing us to replicate the experiment.

Segment Validation

Segment 1

Lungs were mechanically ventilated in volume-controlled mode with a FiO2 of 0.21 and a PEEP of 5 cm H2O. Tidal volumes were adjusted to 7 to 10 mL/kg at 15 breaths per minute (fixed rate) to achieve a PaCO2 between 35 mmHg and 40 mmHg.

Run to homeostasis. Initiate a controlled hemorrhage corresponding to 24 mL/kg for a 39 kg female pig. 59kg*24 ml/kg = 1416 ml -> / 15 min = 94.4 ml/min. This was distributed across the femoral artery and the vena cava. Simulate for 15 minutes.
